Video Visions is a 3 minute video that thoughtfully reflects the influence of a past video artist. My chosen artist is Nam June Paik, a pioneer in blending technology and art.
I saw this genre of video art as a perfect opportunity to try out TouchDesigner, which I've been meaning to get my hands on for a while. Visual coding sounded exactly right for a project about making art using electronic technology.
TouchDesigner as a software focuses on building interactive visual systems moving images, real-time graphics as you will see below. It was my first time experimenting with a visual programming environment of this kind.
I explored the playful intersection between electronics, nature and human spirituality. I used kaleidoscope footage known for its ability to influence perception and evoke a range of mental states, from calming to psychedelic. I distorted underwater footage with all possible kinds of digit effects like halftone, tiling, gradient maps, bitmap, time delay.
The final animation plays with the tension between the natural and the technological, creating a visual experience that feels both organic and otherworldly.
